We are very proud of the work which is being done to grow our own trees to plant at Langarth as the Garden Village develops over the next 20 to 25 years.

As part of our vision for creating a sustainable new community at Langarth, we are planning to plant over 5 hectares (12 acres) of new woodland and other trees throughout the site. This will see 50,000 new native trees planted across the Garden Village to help to provide food, shelter, shade and nesting and roosting sites for wildlife, as well as supporting cleaner air and helping to capture carbon.

We have already planted 5,000 trees in our tree nursery which are being cared for by local company The Grower Ltd.

Last year we were joined at one of our tree planting sessions by Year 5 pupils from Threemilestone Primary School who did a fantastic job in supporting the work being done by our team.

During the next two weeks we are planting a further 10,000 trees in the tree nursery to support future planting in the Garden Village.  Chris from The Grower Ltd is doing a great job at planting these saplings which are destined to be relocated to Governs Park in the future.

If this was not enough, in March members of our project team will be donning their wellington boots and picking up their spades to plant yet more trees which have been donated by the Woodland Trust – helping us towards our target of 50,000 trees.

In addition to growing our own trees, we are also backing the Woodland Trust’s Growing Trees from Seeds campaign which is encouraging people to collect, grow and plant their own tree seeds.

As part of our plans to create new woodland at Langarth we want to offer people the opportunity to plant their saplings in our tree nursery so they are ready to welcome the first residents as they move into their new homes in 2024.
